“What other benefits can I enjoy?”
If your family is planning to move or has already moved to the UK, it is a good time to know these available policies.
We’ve found some benefits you can still enjoy even if you’re not a British citizen (BC) to help you quickly understand.
National Insurance
National Insurance are not covered by the Public Funds.
National Insurance contributions you pay can qualify for certain benefits and state pensions.
Usually National Insurance (NI) and Income tax are collected from your salary together.

Statutory Maternity Pay
The maximum maternity leave in the UK is 52 weeks, with the first 26 weeks being the Ordinary Maternity Leave and the last 26 weeks being the Additional Maternity Leave.
The company has its own mode of paying maternity leave pay, you can ask the relevant department for answers.
If the contract hours fail to meet the company’s maternity pay, you can apply for Statutory maternity pay to enjoy up to 39 weeks of maternity pay:
- 90% salary for the first 6 weeks (average weekly salary before tax)
- The remaining 33 weeks £151.20 or 90% of wages (pay the lower amount)
Statutory Sick Pay
Some companies do not have company sick leave (Sick Leave) benefits due to job type or contract, etc.
In addition to using paid leave, you can also apply to the government for Statutory Sick Pay if you are sick and do not receive company sick leave (Sick Leave) benefits.
Statutory sick pay applies when you are very sick. For example, if you are sick for more than 7 days, you need to show the sick leave slip issued by the doctor/hospital when you go to work.
Due to the epidemic, the clause of being unable to go to work due to self-isolation has also been added, so that people who need to self-isolate for various reasons can still receive wages to maintain their living.
Education
The free education benefit for British nationals is different from the Public Funds, a public resource benefit.
British law stipulates that all school-age children must obtain compulsory education. Therefore, under the standard of the law, free national education is not a public welfare resource.
Free educational services are limited to state-run government-funded schools.
If your child attends a language school or an international school, you will pay full tuition. You can also apply to the school for an on-campus financial aid, usually 50% to 100% of the tuition fee (depending on the family income and the school’s application criteria).
