According to the Consumer Conditions Scoreboard, released this year by the European Commission, over 50% of European consumers consider environmental impact when they are shopping online. The survey found that overall there is an increasing awareness of climate change and global plastic contamination, with 59% of consumers in southern European countries stating that they are environmentally conscious and 57% of consumers in eastern European countries agreeing the same.

As a result of consumer demand for more sustainable ways of shopping online, many E-commerce businesses across Europe are making their delivery processes more environmentally friendly. Some examples of the methods carried out to achieve this include less packaging, recyclable packaging materials and offering a discount to consumers who select shipping methods that use less carbon.
