According to studies, US shoppers are expected to return a whopping $100 billion in unwanted gifts over the festive holiday season. Retailers are expected to see a six per cent increase from last year according to Optpro, as the number of purchases over the Christmas season is expected to rise by five per cent to roughly $1.1 trillion. Online retailers are set to be the worst hit as one in three items purchased online are due to be returned.

Nowadays, online customers are treating their homes as fitting rooms and purchasing numerous items in various colours and sizes to ensure that they select the right colour and size. However, not only will it increase the number of returns, but it will also increase greenhouse emissions emitted from delivery vehicles which will have an impact on the environment.
