The cost of living has been soaring across the UK, mainly due to higher prices for essentials such as gas and electricity, but also food and fuel.
We’ve been working hard to find more allowances that should go to customers and residents to give everyone some relief during inflation.
Reassuringly, to help people through the cost of living crisis, The chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has now confirmed that every household in the UK will see their energy bills cut by £400.
How to receive the £400 grant?
It is understood all UK households will receive a grant that will reduce energy bills by £400 from October.
The discount will be automatically provided by your energy provider. This means you don’t need to apply to get the £400 (per family).
Direct debit and credit customers will receive the money on their accounts for six months from October.
For customers with prepaid meters, the provider will apply the money to the user’s meter or pay through a voucher. The grant will be available to families in England, Scotland and Wales.
The policy is slightly different if you live in Northern Ireland, but you’ll need to wait for the final word.
What additional benefits can I get?
In addition to the energy subsidies mentioned above, the government will also pay more than 8 million low-income earners with Universal Credit, tax credits, pension credits and other means-tested benefits. Families (other means-tested benefits) pay £650.
These grants will be automatically deposited into a bank account.
It is divided into two installments – the first in July and the second sometime in the fall.
Payments to those with tax credits only will be made shortly.

- Disability Living Allowance
- Personal Independence Payment
- Scottish Disability Benefits
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- War Pension Mobility Supplement
Are there additional benefits for pensioners?
If you’re on a pension, you’ll also receive an additional payment of up to £300.
The allowance will be paid to pensioners in November or December.
What benefits should I have received?
Around 80% of households have already received a £150 energy rebate, usually through their council tax.
The mechanism may vary depending on how you pay council tax, for example by direct debit and which part of the country you live in.
